Tips for spring 2010

It’s that horrible time of year for clothes shopping. The shops are still full of sale, but all the good stuff has gone. It is nearly pay day, but you are still feeling the pinch from Christmas. Then on top of all of that we are having the coldest winter on record for 30 years, so buying the SS2010 collections that are beginning to hit shops and are all over the magazines seems like a ridiculous idea.

However it is January and we have to do something to get us through the January blues!

So we have spent some time flicking through magazines and looking through our trend report books to help you spend what little money you have wisely and help start your spring wardrobes.

Here is our top five:

  1. Nautical – (See picture above!)We know it’s nothing new and every year it’s in the shops again, but it is a classic. It hopefully means you will have something in your wardrobe from last time, so all you need is a little something extra.
  2. Denim - The way to wear denim this season is top-to-toe. Again this is an easy one as everyone has denim in their wardrobe! The catwalk look that we loved was chambray shirts with denim, and a tan belt.
  3. Trench coats – Like the nautical look this is a classic, and fingers crossed you have one tucked away in your wardrobe. If not it’s a good investment purchase as it will take you right through the spring and summer. Wear with a contrasting belt or simply tie it at the waist.
  4. Pastels – Were seen on the catwalks, and icy colours are shown in the trend reports. They are hard colours to wear, so shops are showing them with a burst of colour or in prints. We have put them into our accessories range, particularly handbags, which is a good way of picking up on the colour trend.
  5. Must have dresses – Continue to hit the catwalks and high street. They are perfect for this time of year as you can wear them with tights and boots, but still get a spring feel with pretty prints. A trench coat will finish the look off perfectly.
One trend that we think may be difficult this season unless you are on the catwalk and very brave is the lingerie look. Bustiers, suspender belts, pants, and bra tops. Obviously under a long cardigan!

The Stock Shop’s Relaunch in St Thomas’ Hospital

We’re proud to announce the reopening of our St Thomas’ store in London, and alongside it the opening of a new gift store. We’re now located in the newly redeveloped Westminster Walk entrance to the hospital.  The construction work had been ongoing for the last six months, and while it progressed we were located in a temporary unit outside. We know that our staff are glad to finally escape those cramped confines!

The new concourse is one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen and we’re glad to be part of it. It is so amazing that we hope other NHS trusts follow suit!

Although our fashion store is the same size it has been revamped with a completely new look and layout including a new logo.  However we have managed to squeeze in an extra changing room! We will be spreading this new logo across the country to all of our other stores soon.

With two stores opening at the same time it’s been twice as hectic, even more so because we had to fit the finalising work around the Christmas holiday period. We’re now just excited to see how they get on in their new location.

There’s a formal opening for the new entrance scheduled for February 2010. For more information please visit St Thomas's website
